We arrived to Cairo

14.01.2020

The plane landed at Cairo International Airport at the dawn of Tuesday, the 14th. We were six project members coming from Buenos Aires, with a connection in Rome. The flight was very comfortable - in spite of some predictable turbulence - and we were happy for a new adventure that was to begin. Besides that, all was joy because we were informed that we reached our crowdfunding goal, thanks to the help of all the people who fund us and donate to us.

In the morning, we met our project colleagues, Myrian and Fabio, who had arrived some days early. After breakfast, Pablo went to the Egyptian Museum to work with some artifacts. Meanwhile, the rest of us went to site recognition in Cairo Downtown. We bought sim cards for our cellphones so we could talk between ourselves and with our families in Argentina. Although it was something simple, it took us a couple of hours.

We were already hungry when we managed to get some Egyptian cuisine delights. In Felfela Express, we asked for shawarmas, rolls, and tameias. We enjoyed the flavor of cumin, coriander and other spice hearing the traditional street horns.

We had our first work meeting in the afternoon when we planned our daily activities until our departure to Luxor. We reviewed what was missing so we could make a shopping list. We also had to find where to buy all that stuff we needed. Furthermore, we planned the buying of the reward gifts for our crowdfunding donators.

Wednesday morning we had a meeting at Argentine Embassy, located in the Zamalek Island neighborhood. We were anxious and arrived early. So, we had to wait at the sidewalk in front of the building. The meeting started at 11 am and we talked about what we expected for the campaign in Amenmose's tomb. We left the Embassy very glad and thankful for all the support they offered to us.

When we came back from the Embassy, Belén went to the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE) Library. Meanwhile, the rest of us walked back to our hotel by the cornishe, enjoying the sunset at the Nile.

Thursday Andrea, Silvana, and Tata went to the Ministry of Antiquities and Tourism in Giza to managed all the campaign bureaucratic procedures. Pablo and Belén went back to work in the Cairo Museum and in the ARCE Library, respectively. Myriam, Fabio, and Maria Martha took the day to go to the pyramids of Saqqara and the Giza Complex.

In the Afternoon, we bought our tickets to Luxor. First, we thought traveling by night train, but Egypt is in winter vacations and the tickets were sold out. Therefore, we opted to travel by bus. Now, we just left for the 12-hour trip to Luxor, where we will be ready for the hard work.

See you all there!!!
